An ongoing series of 35mm selects from 2018 — present to document my exploration of the interaction between humans and their environment.

Nikon FM10 — possibly my best travel companion these days,
was a gift I received back in high school for my first photography class.
Perhaps it is exactly because I didn't grow up with analog technology,
objects like film cameras, vinyl records, and collage art have all become my getaway from the digital world.
The imperfections, the unpredictability, and the rawness,
film photography remain a mystery to me.

August 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic and after eight years of living there, I moved out of New York City and back to California with my family. It was a tough decision to say goodbye to this city where it has changed me forever.
However, this also allowed me to see America in a way that I would have never imagined to be possible.
My friends, Victor, Whitney, and I embarked on a 14-day cross-country road trip to help me transport some of my personal belongings back home.
Halfway through our trip, we had to change our route entirely due to the ongoing wildfire in the Pacific North West.
It was devastating to see all the smoke covering up the sky, and we could feel the air particles smothering our senses.
Itinerary:
New York City
Badlands National Park
Black Hill National Forest
Custer State Park
Big Horn National Forest
Yellowstone National Park
Canyon Land National Park
Monument Valley
Bryce Canyon National Park
Zion National Park
Joshua Tree National Park
San Diego
But in the end, the most important thing was we arrived home safely.
We were inspired by the diverse landscape and people and realized how much America has to offer, despite the political turmoil.
Parts of the Midwest, such as places like Yellowstone and Utah, left us in awe of its sublime, centuries-old rock formation.

This series is dedicated to all the inspiring souls and moments I had encountered throughout my eight years of residence in the Big Apple:
friends I made at work and school,
acquaintances I chatted with at the supermarkets and post offices,
strangers I talked to on the street.
the late-night strolls and skating at East River while blasting either really sad or super groovy music,
The random objects that people left on the streets,
the infinite wait on subway trains,
(and once you got on the train, you realized you had hopped on the wrong train…)
the hidden gems at thrift shops and flea markets,
the bold and unique fashion statement people made,
the grab-your-towel-and-let’s-go-sun-bathe sesh whenever the sun is out after a long and brutal winter,
the unbeatable NY-style pizzas and art exhibitions,
and finally,
all the amazing talents who show me it is possible to just ‘be’ yourself and love life in your most audacious way.
To be continued…
